Enrollment Hits With Minimum Hitch

A monumental change happened to this year's first semestral enrollment. Lines have drastically reduced and more systematic enrollment has been implemented. The Admissions, Guidance and Placement Office (AGPO), the Office of the General Education and Curriculum (OGEC), Computer Services Department Office (CSD), the Registrar’s Office and the Office of the Vice President for Operations (OVP) formulated plans and activities that are to be implemented for the enrollment, weeks before admissions commenced.

Systematic Enrollment

Computerization aborted the time that it took to complete, process and post the names of the successful examinees, a process that formerly took days to prepare. The names of entrance examination passers posted in bulletin boards adjacent to the AGPO office was also posted in the Far Eastern University website, with their corresponding student numbers. There were also new procedures in accepting incoming students who graduated with high merits. Valedictorians and Salutatorians no longer need to pay down payment before they can enroll. An information booth manned by student was set up near gate 4 outside the Engineering Building to answer queries by the parents and new students regarding enrollment procedures, policies, tuition and the like. This, together with flyers containing enrollment procedures and directional signs posted throughout the campus, in effect made the enrollment process more efficient and hassle free. All offices were ensured that all their windows that service enrollees were amply manned. Depending on the number of enrollees, these same offices ensured that they remained open during lunch breaks. To maximize the time and minimize confusion, the Uniforms office formerly located near the Office of the Student Affairs and Community Services (OSACS), was transferred beside the ID section. With the help of the Security Office "snake lines" were implemented meaning there should only be one line despite the number of windows open and students that were in line. The first line went to whichever window was available. Roving security personnel monitored these lines to be able to place personnel where they are needed.

Institute Beats

Cashier booths were stationed in respective buildings inside the university dispersing the bulk of the upperclassmen and avoiding long queues in the Pavilion, where incoming freshmen were directed to pay their tuition.

In the Institute of Arts and Science (IAS), three cashiers were place inside the IAS Secretariat. Students of the non-science departments housed inside the Arts Building were all allowed to pay in the (IAS) office downstairs, while science students had to complete their transaction in the cashier booths in the Pavilion.

Student Speak

"Mabilis naman yung enrollment, kaso yung pagkuha na ng ID yung matagal, Ang dami kasing sumisingit. Pero masaya na ako kasi college student na ako", says Aleli an incoming GEC student.

"In the three years that I’ve studied here in FEU, this is the first time that I've finished enrolling in less than 30 minutes. Actually I finished enrolling in 15 minutes. Ang galing!" says Mark Patrick a third year Mass Communication student.

"Actually, hindi pa ako tapos mag-enroll, and dami ko pang I-a-add na subjects. Hassle nga eh", says Paul a fourth year Fine Arts student.
